On February 11, independent news outlet Peterborough Currents launched a project that tracks the votes of Peterborough city councillors. Will Pearson, co-founder and editor at Peterborough Currents, designed the project.
“It all started during the 2022 municipal election,” says Pearson. “I got curious about the voting records of the incumbent councillors in my ward […] and I found it very difficult to find that information.”
Pearson has spent “years” building this vote tracker but “struggled to find the right tools” until recently. The vote tracker is now live on their website.
“I hope it encourages more engagement with the city council process, and more understanding of the nuts and bolts of our local democracy.”
