On June 10th, the residents of Sandy Lake First Nation, located in Northwestern Ontario near the Manitoba border, were evacuated due to the out-of-control Red Lake 12 Fire. The evacuees are being housed in locations across the province, and around 300 Sandy Lake residents have arrived at Trent University.

The First Peoples House of Learning (FPHL) and the Nogojiwanong Friendship Centre acted quickly to seek donations for the displaced community. Donations are being collected in the Gather Space, located on the first floor of Gzowski College (1 Gzowski Way). A variety of items are needed:

  • Summer Clothing
  • Sandals
  • Hats
  • Socks
  • T-shirts
  • Fruit cups, bearpaws, snack foods
  • Towels
  • Reusable water bottles
