The City of Peterborough approved an Economic Development Update report at the Monday, August 10th meeting of Peterborough City Council.
The report is the first produced since the city moved the Economic Development portfolio in-house at the beginning of 2025.
One of the strategic focuses of Peterborough’s economic development plan highlighted in the report is the newly-founded Peterborough Aerospace & Defense Cluster (PADC), which launched in June of 2026.
While several councilors and Mayor Jeff Leal expressed support for the opportunity to bolster economic growth through the defense sector, other councilors were critical of what they felt was a lack of oversight given to council on the portfolio.
