Less than a month after officially launching his campaign, Peterborough municipal candidate Rob Hailman has announced he’s stepping back from his mayoral bid.

On October 4th Hailman posted an announcement to his campaign page saying that running for office while working two jobs meant “compromising [his] ability to campaign…existing commitments to [his] employers and…community, and [his] health and well-being.”

In the announcement Hailman said he would honour outstanding campaign obligations such as scheduled debates, but would not actively campaign after from now until election day. As a certified candidate, Hailman’s name will remain on the ballot on October 26th.

Evan Robins sat down with Rob Hailman on October 5th, the day after his announcement, to discuss his decision to suspend campaign activities and what he learned from his mayoral run. Listen to hear that interview in full.
