Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board trustee Steve Russell says a new elementary school in Millbrook, set to open in fall 2027, will help relieve years of overcrowding. The $24.2-million project is now in the design phase, with community input and municipal partnerships shaping its development.

Russell also pointed to recent boundary adjustments in Peterborough aimed at balancing enrollment across schools, and to the Board’s opt-in transportation system, which frees up unused bus seats and improves efficiency.

While these initiatives address growth and resources, Russell says provincial underfunding remains a challenge.

“Our grandchildren deserve the same per capita funding that our children had,” says Russell.
