Before the start of the fall term, food service at The Trend — the dining space at Trent University’s downtown campus, Catharine Parr Traill College — were replaced by vending machines. According to the university’s Foodservice Advisory Committee, the reasoning for The Trend’s end of operation is due to the absence of undergrad students living at the college (August 14, 2025 Meeting Notes).

Despite this closure occurring months ago, many students still hold strong opinions on the matter. Having the opportunity to interview some undergrad students who were in The Trend’s space, the consensus seems to be that the change is unwelcome.
