Broedie and Dustyn Birkhof are suiting up together this season for the Peterborough Century 21 Lakers, a first for the hometown brothers. Both grew up playing minor lacrosse in the city, and now they are chasing a Mann Cup side by side.
Broedie, a seasoned defender with experience in multiple leagues, says playing for the team he grew up watching is “pretty surreal.” Dustyn is coming off a season with the NLL’s Ottawa Black Bears and says joining Broedie for a full season is “a dream come true.”
Both brothers bring toughness and leadership to a Lakers squad hungry for another championship. After a strong debut, they have already earned the respect of fans.
The Lakers are on the road this week, with home action resuming June 19 against Brooklin. With the Birkhofs in the lineup, Peterborough is focused on bringing the Mann Cup back home.
