At the Peterborough City Council meeting on May 11th, Council approved dedicating $57 million to the construction of a new Multi-Use Sport and Events Centre (MUSEC).
The proposed funding plan for the MUSEC is a “one-third and two-third model,” says Councillor Andrew Beamer. “The City puts up a third if they can get the two thirds from upper-levels of government and the private sector.”
The MUSEC is intended to replace the Peterborough Memorial Centre (built in 1956) and would serve as the new home of both the Peterborough Petes and Lakers. The new building would be better equipped to host modern concerts and other large events.
