The full extent of a data breach at Lakelands Public Health (LPH) is only now becoming apparent, and more than 60,000 people may have been affected.

A June 30th press release from LPH confirmed that approximately 60,000 current or former patients in the city and county of Peterborough had been affected by a data breach which occurred on January 29th, 2026.

Patients who received services and treatment from Lakelands Public Health, or whose health information (such as lab results) was received by the organization, between 1996 and January 2026 may be affected.

Listen to hear Director of Strategic and Emergency Services and Privacy Officer for Lakelands Public Health, Donna Churipuy, interviewed about the breach, as well as cybersecurity expert, Jack Thompson, explain what threat actors are after.
